SPECIAL NOTES: "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" by
Napoleon XIV (on the Warner Brothers label) generated massive
amounts of protest in New York and elsewhere. The protests mostly
came from mental health professionals, advocates for mental
health, and families of those afflicted with mental illness or
psychological/psychiatric disorders. Both New York Top 40
stations (WABC and WMCA) banned the song; WABC doing so when the
song reached its peak position. WABC continued to list the song
as it declined on the survey, and its position was noted on the
air during Cousin Brucie's Top 20 countdown on Tuesday evenings,
but it never again received airplay.

There was another Top 20 song not receiving airplay this week;
the Beatles at #16 was not played due to a short period on WABC
when all Beatles records were banned! This was in response to the
infamous statement in an interview where John Lennon allegedly
said that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus Christ (a
statement most now agree was taken out of context). For the
seven-day period of this survey (2 August - 9 August 1966), no
Beatles records were played on "WABeatleC."
