Come on, forego the hype: satellite radio is a one-size-fits-all solution and the only "real" choice you have is between Sirius or XM. What's the difference? Most of the content is identical and it's programmed for national audiences. The level of homogenization is a joke -- I laughed when I read their political talk channels are called Sirius "Right" and Sirius "Left". Are they for real???
The "variety" selling point is specious: satellite radio is only 120 stations from each of two providers. That's about as much "variety" as the terrestrial radio audience gets halfway between Baltimore and Philly, or the equivalent of having programming from any two major cities covering the entire United States. Where's the variety? Who decides?
Also the "relationship" that you have to enter with the provider gives me the creeps. Am I the only person who doesn't need one more corporation demanding my affirmation and affection, nor cluttering my mailbox with love-letters? When I turn my radio off, it generally leaves me alone. Have fun getting any distance from Sirius!
