Though I'm concerned that that's what the net result might be: a bunch of 52-year-old listeners when they're hoping for those 10-30 years younger. Which, I guess, is where the critical mass of "CHR/Oldies lifers" lies--the younger you are, the less you're hung up over degrees of rock or hip-hop. (Oh, and the more likely your 80s framework's defined by MTV rather than radio, much less Top 40/CHR radio, etc. And the more likely you'll have left commercial music radio essentially by the wayside *since* the 80s.)

Hate to say it, but even if 80s CHR was a "youth format" on paper, its stronger net benefit was to the Top 40 old-timers who wanted to feel eternally young and on-side--at least until pop music trends became too gruelling to bear. And that's why an "evolved" oldies wouldn't necessarily lead to the significantly younger audience its proponents wish for...
