Could be. Could also be that these acts are so "perennial" that they're no longer must-see for a target audience that maybe doesn't go out as often as they used to.
With gas prices what they are today, maybe people are being more careful about how many miles they drive. Maybe there was another show before or after this that took away some of the dollars that may have been spent here.
When Mike Smith (lead singer of the Dave Clark Five) did a show at BB King's in March of 2003, there was no involvement by CBS-FM. Q104 helped promote the show with interviews and the place sold out. In August of this year, there were two benefit shows for Mike Smith (he was paralyzed in an accident) at BB Kings and they both sold out with tickets as high as $100. The acts were The Zombies, Peter and Gordon, Denny Laine and Billy J. Kramer -- all of them CBS-FM type artists. Of course, there was no CBS-FM to promote the shows but they still did well.
I'm sure that losing some promotional muscle is a factor to some degree, but don't lay it on that entirely. There are a lot of elements in why a show does or doesn't do well.
