Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this great board! To Allen and Bob, I wish nothing but the BEST in the future.
Let's remember WCBS-FM as the GREATEST OLDIES STATION IN THE WORLD!!!
For all the DJ's that have gone through the hallowed halls (and studios), the talent there was mind-boggling! They are what made the station what it was.
What other station in 1975, (for example) would play the Doobie Brothers "Listen To The Music", then go into some obscure New York "doo wop" song, then go to Barry Manilow and "Mandy"? You guessed it! WCBS-FM!
It was that kind of diverse playlist that I craved for. No matter how much you hated a song they were currently playing, just wait a while, and there was a real "OH-WOW!" song just around the bend.
Remember the commercials? "Crazy Eddie...his prices are INSANE" "You can't miss DA,DA,DA,DA...Whirlin' Disc" "Nobody beats The Wiz, nobody beats The Wiz". Those commercials and many others stick in my mind like glue.
The newscasts and all the jingles were terrific, too!
It's the DJ's, however, that really made WCBS-FM the gratest thing since sliced bread.
There will be no other station like it. The Golden 101, Solid Gold, Where All The Good Songs Have Gone, We Play Your Favorite Oldies, Motown, Soul, and Rock And Roll, etc., etc.
WCBS-FM R.I.P.
Thanks again, Allen and Bob!
