>>>I believe this board was originally established as a temporary board to relieve the main board ( NYRMB ) from going into a severe overload situation when we suddenly lost WCBS-FM OLDIES 101.1 FM a few months ago.<<<
That's correct. I got a tip an hour before the format was changed that it was coming. I knew it was going to be a huge story and felt the NYRMB would be over run by it. I have created temporary message boards in the past for unique situations and will probably do so again if we have another extraordinary circumstance.
Last week I consulted with Bob about the future of the board. I felt that now, almost five months later, that the serious radio discussion about WCBS-FM's format change was limited. While there still were many fan posts to this board, the programming and radio business related posts were now so few that they could easily be done on the main NYRMB. In fact, it's better to have those discussions centered on one board rather than fragmented across two forums. I don't believe most people want to check two boards if it's not necessary.
There's clearly an interest in a WCBS-FM "Fan Board". That's fine but it's not something I want to host. My interests are more toward radio programming and the business of radio. I'm not interested in a never-ending discussion of the "good old days" of WCBS-FM. That's sounds condescending but I don't mean it that way. It's just that it's not the direction I'm interested in focusing a forum on that demands server space, web site resources and my time.
After discussing this all with Bob, he agreed this seemed an appropriate time to end this forum. The more serious CBS-FM radio discussion can and will continue to take place on the NYRMB and the fan type discussion can take place on the other forums popping up. Just one word of advice from someone who has been running a popular web board for 8 years. Pick one board. Don't create a bunch of them. You want to keep everyone in one place rather than split people up. One strong forum is far better than five fragmented ones.
