This forum was created the day WCBS-FM dropped its 33 year old oldies format on June 3, 2005. As the early posts to this board demonstrate, there was tremendous outrage on that day. It's unusual that a successful radio station changes its format. The reasons for it are well debated throughout the early pages as you can see.

As time went by the board shifted from a place to express outrage to a place to debate the reasons for the change. A few agreed with it but the vast majority of the posters did not.

Eventually the board became a place for fans of the oldies format of WCBS-FM to hang out and share ideas.

The Board was initially created by myself to act as an adjunct to the main New York Radio Message Board. Because I knew the change in formats at WCBS-FM was going to be a huge story, I felt a dedicated forum was the best place to handle the surge in traffic. Long time WCBS-FM afternoon personality Bob Shannon then took over the moderating responsibility for the final three months.

I'm not sure how long all of the posts will remain available for viewing. It depends on server space and bandwidth. If you have lots of time, it's an interesting read. Remember, these were written as the events took place rather than as an interpretation afterward. It's like viewing raw footage before the edits. The posts you see written here are opinion and may or may not be factually accurate.

Thanks to all who participated from June 3, 2005 until October 31, 2005. The New York Radio Message Board remains open and, of course, WCBS-FM will continue to be discussed there.

As always... Stay tuned!
