Call it my "mini" project...
I set out to find songs that entered one of the national top TWENTY lists in the very first week of summer (6/21) and dropped off the top TWENTY right after Labor Day...
Granted, these are somewhat arbitrary criteria, but nevertheless, it does technically define a "summer" song...
SO, for the decades of the 50's, 60's and 70's, only FOUR songs fit the criteria, and NONE of them is about summer, sand, the beach, surfing, or happy summer days...
Oh well, for what it's worth, here are the only "true" summer hits...
1961 - Tossin' and Turnin'
1972 - Mr. Big Stuff - Jean Knight
1978 - Miss You - Rolling Stones
1979 - When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman - Dr. hook
