I believe they were finished masters. Lennon chose what he considered his ( and Yoko's ) best material for release on Double Fantasy. What was left made it to Menlove Avenue. I do not think there was anything added to Menlove Avenue after John's passing. The only thing that changed was the removal of Jack Douglas' name as producer and replaced with Yoko's name due to problems between the two. There is probably some more Double Fantasy material that has not been released including tracks recorded with members of Cheap Trick.
