My sense is that this is pure coincidence. I recall an interview with Martha Reeves some years back and she said "Vandellas" came from two sources. First, her favorite singer was Della Reese and someone else, either a mentor, producer or other colleague had a surname beginning with "Van" (possibly Van Dyke).
