A few days ago I became aware of a really nice page that Artie Wayne created, with the help of others, to honor the King Of Rock and Roll.
For those like myself who was around during the "Early Elvis" years as well as those who were "Elvis-Fan Come Latelies," this is really a nice free gift!
The page is called the TOP 20 ELVIS MUSIC VIDEOS OF ALL TIME but there's actually more than that.
(Artie needs to take a refresher course: Counting 101!)
That aside, I thoroughly enjoyed what Artie has put together, ably assisted by contributions from some of the true heavyweights in the business including Scott Shannon, Eddie Hodges, Bobbi Cowan, Alan O'Day and Steve Binder. All involved deserve a multitude of kudos.
And if you're scratching your head wondering who Steve Binder is, here's the answer. He was the man most responsible for the Elvis Comeeback TV Special, sometimes still referred to as the "Singer Special," since it was sponsored by the Singer Sewing Machine Company.
I commend Artie for choosing not to put what is on his page in some sort of artificial rank order. I think it is much better what he has chosen to do, namely to arrange things chronologically.
Oh yes ....
I must humbly plead guilty to actually LIKING Elvis's highly-criticized performance of "Hound Dog" on the Steve Allen show, even though some have stated that it may have been the single most embarrassing moment in Elvis's career and Elvis himself was not particularly thrilled with it. Despite that, I personally thought that appearance showed the "fun" side of Elvis and I have always enjoyed it. "Hound Dog" is a great song but, let's face it, it's not all THAT serious, so what was the big deal about having Elvis perform it in somewhat of an unusual setting? And the fact that people still talk about it today can't be ALL bad, can it?
(Okay, that's just one man's humble opinion, possibly influenced by the fact that I LOVE doggies! If you think I'm all wet, feel feee to let me have it!)
Seriously .....
I highly recommend Artie's web page and I must compliment him and those who helped him for a job extremely well done.
