Hi all...

Two important points that all of you seem to miss, including many of those in Fred's thread below.

The charts are ONLY a snapshot of what's happening at the time, just like stats in anything.

Example: Baseball stats are what they are for WHEN they happened. You can't say that Joe Dimaggio had x number of homers but should be listed as having x+8 homers because the wind was blowing in and stopped 8 long fly outs from going over the fence!

You can't say that "My Girl" was #1 for one week but would have only peaked at #4 if it was released in 1975 and factored in with the sales from that time frame.

Charts are a picture, a snapshot, of the biggest calculated hits of a particular point in time. Please, enough with all the over-analysis.

Second point: Jim...you make a GREAT point about the songs that didn't peak that high on the chart. Correctly chosen, lots of these songs could be GREAT ones to play. To me, there is no difference between playing a lesser-known oldie than from playing a new "hot prospect" sandwiched between "Rag Doll" and "A Hard Days Night" in 1964. Just as we listened to the "new" lesser known song then, oldies listeners today will NOT tune away because of a LESSER known oldie played around the bigger, better known songs.

Mike
