funny thing - i noted the above piece about Pat Boone, and what did i think of, you ask?? Several things, most of which i don't have exact dates for - all in the 90's - but a combination of interesting music-related images/memories...
1) When Pat Boone released "In a Metal Mood" - with all those Deep Purple and Alice Cooper songs and all that; i mean, first of all, his take on "Smoke on the Water" was interesting, to say the least (actually, it wasn't half-bad!!) Actually, what sticks out for me on that is that when "....Mood" was released, was all the protests from the Christian community about it (you see, kiddies, at that time, Pat had several shows running on the Christian-oriented Trinity Broadcasting Network and...you can figure the rest....)
2) Around the time of "...Mood"'s release, Pat also made an appearance on the Grammy Awards - he had chaps (leather pants with holes) and a black leather vest on. And in his eyes, he had what liked purple contacts - and I'm thinking two different things - one, he looked freaky; and two, for a guy his age (I think he was like 66 at the time) to dress like that (and he doesn't even LOOK his age!) took a LOT of chutzpah (guts!) to do....
