'Coney Island Baby' popped up as one of those too-fast-for-slow-dancing-tunes at a lot of basement parties , but at our age we honky boys would give it a try with a suitable female girl of the opposite sexual gender. Sigh. For lotsa guys the song resonated very well with teenhood, hot dogs, braces, subways, eyelashes and other awakenings from locales previously unexplored.

The devil knows who in Queens NYC found the song in the first place and added it to the pile of 45's all set to serenade the gatherings. But in the song's wake there probably should exist an equal amount of homage and disgust -- from guys who *sorta* learned to dance because of the song, and from gals whose insteps forever became disfigured during those early-on Slow Dance Duels.

For some reason, girls stopped becoming pests at the time ......

The label was white with red, if my acne'd memory serves .....
