WABC did NOT play the original version of "Expressway to Your Heart". Instead they played a customized edited version of the song.
So why did they edit it? Because their music committee BANNED the original. And what was the fuss about?
The opening lyrics were deemed offensive and scandalous. The lyric goes "I've been trying to get to you for a long time". But the sneaky Soul Survivors actually sang "I've been trying to get INTO you...".
So WABC snip snipped a bit, and the next thing you know, the original was clipped to "I've been trying to get TO you..."
They were always VERY careful what they played in the 60s!
