Aretha also did a reamake of Bridge Over Trouble Water not long after S & G and was very successful.The Isley Bros. remake of Love The One You're With was also a decent size hit.
Wilson Pickett remade Hey Jude and Sugar Sugar within a year of them becoming hits.
Obviously , these are all soul artists doing remakes of pop-rock records for a soul audience.All these crossed over to pop.
