Mike - I've been corresponding with a few of the other record posters in an effort to find out who are complaining, and then to avoid posting their music. Here's who you won't find on my channel:
Tee Set
Badfinger
Them
Johnny and the Hurricanes
Elvis
Sam Cooke
Prince
Dion
Poco
James Gang

The complaints seem to come from the artists / whoever owns the copywrite (or at least their lawyers), rather than from a specific record label.

In the mean time, I just recently heard from one artist - a member from the band King Harvest - and they love seeing their 45 RPM up on YouTube!

One fellow record poster called "Music Mike" is now on his THIRD YouTube channel. The first two channels were suspended. Take a look at his productions - they are excellent, and really help promote some long lost musical gems from artists rarely heard today.

How do I pick which songs get posted from the thousands in my collection?
Good question!
Early on it was simply just my gut!
I simply went through my collection flipping through 45's looking at first for "lost oldies" not normally heard today. I specifically avoided posting records already posted by fellow record posters: "Thunderbird1958", "Bucksheespins" and "MusicMike". I did not want to compete against them, and post duplicate records.
My unwritten rule was that these posters posted with pretty decent audio already. However, there are a number of other record posters who post 45's with poor audio quality. I had no problem posting a record with much better HiFi audio, even if already posted by one of those LoFi posters!

I also preferred posting records that are commonly heard today, except in their correct mixed/ edited versions.
I quickly focussed on those records to decide which gets posted.
I also note which version iTunes has.
It is amazing at all the non-original versions that iTunes has!
I make note of that in my comments for each record.
However, on the opposite side - iTunes DOES post *some* correct single versions of the music they sell,
and you can see by the bar graph how it ranks against the common stereo version.

The Hollies record I posted only because I never heard this on the radio, but yet I happen to like it.
I pulled this record out of a garbage can back at my college radio station, and of the hundreds of "dead" records that got thrown there, this one stuck out. Turns out that with thousands of Hollies fans and YouTube'rs, it's a favorite too!!! I still can't believe how well this record is doing!!
Believe it or not, I saved all those rejected, thrown out records. I still have over a 1000 of them. Haven't gone through them in years. I'm sure there might be a few gems still in there!

I also only post near mint or mint records. I have many that are playable, but worn, so those don't get posted.
I also prefer the original 45 RPM pressing, and avoid reissues when possible.

Today, I also post some requests - if they "fit the format" (which is pretty loose!)
I had one subscriber from Chicago send me about 40 of his records he asked to be posted.
I said sure, go ahead and send them. When I got them, 95% of them are really out there.
I posted a few of the better ones to keep him happy. I've since learned to be careful with anything
people volunteer to send to be posted! (Example - "Fox Hunt" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.)

I also post records in response to discussions on this board - such as the recent Mamas & the Papas posted records.

So as you can see - being "Program Director" of my own channel has it's challenges!
My biggest concern is to keep the "sound" focused on 60's & 70's pop music, with the 45 being "the star" of the show.
But I keep it interesting by on occasion posting a 45 of Emerson Lake & Palmer, or a few airchecks - for example.

Comments & suggestions are of course always welcome!!!
Spencer
