This marks the 40th anniversary of the largest upward movement EVER in the top 100 chart.
It happened when Jeannie C. Riley skyrocketed from #81 to #7 in one week!
The record has technically been surpassed numerous times in the last several years due to the rather sketchy chart standards and techniques Billboard has now embraced.
(Under Billboard's previous methodologies, jumps of this magnitude were rare. Jeannie C. Riley's record jump of 74 slots went unmatched for 30 years, but it has already been surpassed nine times since 2006. Changes in when the eligibility of a single first begins, as well as calculations of digital download totals, have made abrupt chart jumps more commonplace.)
But until the emergence of the current questionable charts, Jeannie was queen.
