This is very interesting in light of the recent discussion here of the charts and all-time hits.
Billboard's assessment of the Biggest Hits of the Hot 100 Era puts "The Twist" at #1. And in doing so, they used a formula to "equalize the chart eras" to, among other things, make up for the fact that turnovers were quicker on the chart in the 50's and 60's (something discussed here recently), and that the methodology in compiling the top 100 has changed through the years.
It's also interesting to hear Chubby's comments on being named #1. To me, I almost detect a bit of vindictiveness there, as if "it's about time". Go, Mr. Checker!
