Chubby IS a very angry man toward the industry...and especially the RRHOF. I don't BLAME him, but having met him a few times, and being dissed by him when I attempted to interview him at a boardwalk club in Seaside many years ago, I can see why SOME in the industry find him PERSONALLY disagreeable.
BUT. The record WAS revolutionary, and even though it WAS a note-for-note copy of the Hank Ballard "B" side, it WAS a monster hit and I may have to agree with this new weighted finding.
I wonder what Joel Whitburn would do if HE was to do this same kind of math that Billboard itself did?
So in some ways, hats off the Chubby...and the group of singers and musicians who were able to capture lightning in a bottle in Philly, circa 1960. The Cameo-Parkway factory was a very cool place I'm told by some of the studio cats who PLAYED on many of the hits.
I still have my Parkway Records copy of Ernest's recording...it's almost powder from the many times I played it, but it is still a treasured part of my vast collection.
