The problem with these speciality shows is this.. if they put them on too soon in the rebirth of the station, people who are sampling have no idea what the station does all the time if it is not doing it when they tune in.
CBS-FM MUST stick to its knitting for as long as possible to make sure people know what they do and how they do it.
THEN there is time for a specialty show here and there. "Accoustic Sunrise" is a great show.. but as Allan said it belongs someplace else. I woke up Sunday, put on the radio and literally checked the tuner to be sure it had not drifted. I wanted CBS-FM, not that.
Elvis is Elvis.. but three hours? I don't think so. An hour of Elvis is just plenty. An hour of doo-wop shop is plenty. You cannot deviate from the mission right now.
The mission statment is or should be: "CBS-FM is a radio station that plays music from the 60's, 70's and 80's with personality disk jockeys designed to attract listeners between the ages of 25 and 54."
If I am running CBS-FM right now I want to solidify my air staff... (I like Rock Stacey a lot by the way... never heard of him before but like his approach...) and make sure people know just what we do. That means living up to that mission statement by doing what we do just about all the time. A book or two from now when the market knows they are back and who the jocks are and what kind of music they are playing.. then you can start adding and substracting and modifying the mission statement a bit.
But I just would not risk specialty shows on weekends or any other time right now. Play the classic hits 24/7, solidify the air staff and promote the hell out of the place.
You have wary advertisers as it is. Don't throw them or listeners any curves. This place has to prove itself all over again.
