What I would probably do is hire Bobby Jay, if available to do a retro WWRL show. What I mean is to take a week from the old RL playlist and play it. NY is a very urban city. The WABC/MCA playlists have been played into the ground but playing the music of a station like WWRL would be refreshing. That doesn't mean they should play stiff, bombs or B side which made it to air for a week and then disappeared, but songs like Tina Britts, the Real Thing or Don't Let the Joneses get You Down, by the Temps which were big on black radio in NYC should be played on a show like this. I believe a Saturday or Sunday Night program with a host like Bobby who actually played these things and knows the music first hand would be great to hear and would act as an updating of the Doo Wop Shop.
