I remember Bill Brown playing "My Jelly Bean" by Bobby & the Consoles (1963) around the time it was repro'd, 1976-77. I don't think it lasted too long though.

"Bobby" began as Bobby Pedrick, Jr. ("White Bucks And Saddle Shoes") (1958), then as simply "Bobby Pedrick" by his third record. By 1968, he grew up to be Robert John ("If You Don't Want My Love"). Eventually, he'd score a widely popular Hit with a remake of the Tokens' "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" in 1972-73. In the UK, his *sound* was mimicked by Dave Newmann on the same song. But his biggest Hit would be "Sad Eyes" (1982?).
