Cousin Bruce has spent years and years owning radio stations. He knows what advertisers will pay for, and what the NY area needs and will give success to.
Cousin Brucie said on his satellite show that they offerred him a spot on the new WCBS-FM and he said he would never associate himself with a station thats clearly not what it was when he was there.
He also said: "I worked for a golden oldies station, This is a 60's 70's 80's mix station. It's just not the same"
Brian Thomas molds his stations to where he also becomes a fan of them. He did this with Jack, and the other stations around the country he worked for.
The results of those stations show he clearly doesn't like or enjoy the beginning 10 years of Rock & Roll. This is able to be easily applied to some absolute knowledge of "what advertisers want or else"
This doesn't seem to be Cousin Brucie's opinion with his expertise in broadcasting and owning successful stations, so there is leeway in what will work.
Since there is leeway, here is where the program director's historical dislike of 50's music can affect what is played.
Based on the way Cousin Brucie phrased the result of his talks with WCBS-FM, 50's will NOT be added to the current daily playlists. Countless requests on their own websites message board might as well stuff it.
This past "50's weekend" was like pulling teeth, and the up to 1 full song an hour was ridiculous, representing how trite management feels the 50's era is.
The preference seems to wish it would just go away and be dead - but since it won't, we may be offered some sort of little 50's & early 60's all-hits-only trite weekend show just to shut us up, but a couple of 50's songs an hour throughout the week as a great lead-in will obviously NEVER happen with the current program director.
A "Friday Nite 50's" PLUS a "Saturday Jack Spector (type) Sock Hop" pair of shows with depth and magnitude would be WAAAY too much if Brian Thomas has any say.
Current WCBS-FM seems to feel those days are OVER, as opposed to Cousin Brucie's apparant opinion.
Which expert is right, and which expert should be laughingly dismissed?
