Larry,
If a PD used his own musical tastes to flavor a format he wouldn't be a good PD. I have said before, if I were a PD of CBS-FM in a "dream world" I would fill the format with about 50% pre '64 , 40% 64 - 79 and 10 % 80's with a lot of Doo Wop all in the regular rotation. If I were in Brian Thomas' shoes, in the real world I would play about 10% pre '64 in the regular rotation, and that would even be a stretch. My point, Brian Thomas has to do what is dictated by the times and by society overall. He has to satisfy the business objectives of a huge corporation, even over what some of the listeners want. This is coming from me, personally who loves 50's and 60's Rock and Roll and plays it very heavily on my Sunday show. The difference is that I can get away with it and don't have to show "numbers".
As far as Bruce Morrow is concerned, he really doesn't care if the format is barren of pre'64 music. Brucie would adjust himself accordingly. This happened as far back as 1965 when Rick Sclar cut out 50's music on WABC. Brucie's Saturday Nights completely changed, but Brucie rolls with the punches.
