To answer the question originally asked of "Why keep asking for him?", I think Steve hit the nail on the head -- Brucie *IS* NY radio to a lot of people. If you don't believe me, go check the XM & Sirius fan boards. XMites often boast of their 1960s channel being superior to Sirius' because Sirius' is "too New York [for the rest of the country]". The Sirius fans -- thrilled with Cousin Brucie, Norm N Nite, Bobby Jay & co. on their various channels -- praise just how "New York" [read: hip, central, smart, urbane] their stations are! Love him or loathe him, Cousin Brucie just defines NY radio to many people. (Count me among those who would love to see him return to WCBS-FM in *any* format! Even on 60s Vibrations on Sirius, Brucie plays a lot of 1970s & 1980s alongside the 1950s & 1960s; a specialty show on the new 101.1 would seem a nice fit.) If I recall correctly, at the time of the flip back, CBS' statement read that "the door is always open to Cousin Brucie" and Brucie's statement read that "all options are open" at the end of the Sirius contract in '08. Discussion till that point is indeed futile, and all those on this board are certainly right who assert that 101.1 needs to be looking to the future jocks as well. But, where a lot of New Yorkers are concerned, Cousin Brucie would be a welcome addition to the terrestrial airwaves in NYC! Till then, it's a pleasure I never expected to be able to hear Bob, Broadway, Pat & the crew on 101.1 and Brucie on satellite Wednesdays & Saturdays! Truly the best of both worlds for this happy New Yorker.
