I don't think this is subjective at all unless you're making a personal argument about which version you like better. I'm not doing that.
I'm stating as fact that songs almost always have a version that is better known. A station that plays the hits like CBS-FM does should always play the better known version. In most cases that's likely to be the shorter version.
Familiarity is the key. It's what this format is built around.
Now, if we were discussing a Classic Rock station, I'd probably make the reverse argument (in most cases).
