Those are all true and very valid points. CBS-FM does need to shoot for the middle, and I agree, with the 80s, that's a very difficult task. But one thing CBS-FM has going for it that a station like Jack doesn't is that it can compare 80s songs with its 60s and 70s music library. The music crafted in 60s and 70s styles became the middle ground music when Rhythm and Rock diverged so drastically around the early 80s. Songs that mesh well with the older songs will almost certainly be nonpolarizing, and those that don't mesh (like rap or hard rock, especially), should not be played (other than maybe once a week or so).
