If your know your music, & know how to program song-by-song, you shouldn't have a problem with blending 80's hits with 70's & 60's. There are plenty of mid & uptempo 80's hits that fit the new CBS-FM from the "me" decade. Brian Thomas was a top 40 PD then and knows the right songs. No, you wouldn't play rap or hair band hits, but they didn't start to dominate top 40 radio until the late 80's (hmmm...this boomer likes "Wild Thing" by Tone-Loc). Actually, rap didn't REALLY take over the pop chart until the 90's.
