That's true. The niching of music (and radio formats) didn't happen like a light switch turning on. It evolved over time... starting in the seventies. My point is that the "problem" got more significant as time went on.

Debating individual songs is tough. I would't play "Living On a Prayer" but I can see your argument.

I would pick 80's music based on what I think an average 35 year old would like to hear in the context of a radio station that also plays sixties and seventies music. The Def Leppard fans aren't going to listen to CBS-FM no matter what. I don't think the rap fans will either. So... of those who will listen to the station, what is compatible with the rest of the format?

Obviously it's subjective and a tough job.
