>>>Specifically, how was it "promoted and marketed" to give the expectations you had? Your reaction, and the others who have been complaining, is not based on a single thing the station said. It's based on what *you* were expecting... based on? I heard all the same promos you did. What I took away from it was they were going to do something... but it wasn't at all clear what.<<<
Allan, here is a quote directly from the WCBS-FM FAQ:
"Q: What about the former DJ’s of CBS-FM?
A: Not everyone from the past is available. Some of our former personalities are under contract to other radio companies, some are retired and sadly not everyone is in good health to work a full time schedule. Some of the people who are available will be featured on Sundays with a show we’ve dubbed “NY Radio Greats” that will air Sundays from 7:00 – 10:00pm."
The direct implication of this statement is that the NY Radio Greats show would be a live show, with former personalities. Yes, it's possible that they will do this in the future, but I guess there is no way to know. You are trying to pretend like the confusion/disappointment on this board is because of the expectations all of US had. Quite clearly, those expectations were set by CBS-FM. If they had merely announced "New York Radio Greats - 7-10, Sunday" it would be different. The CBS-FM website and promotions set up expectations here.
The way that they were promoting the show, they made it sound like it would be a live DJ, and that is not what they did.
Personally, I think there was nothing wrong with what they did. I think the concept of a show along those lines is great. HOWEVER, the very reaction that people are having on this message board clearly shows that the promotions made it seem like we'd see something different from what we received. It really doesn't matter if CBS-FM didn't intend that to be the case, because it is obviously the way a lot of people took the show.
I think Mike is absolutely right in criticizing the way that the show was promoted. This isn't a matter of complaining. A lot of people, including myself, liked the show. We are simply stating that we feel that it wasn't necessarily promoted in the best way possible.
CBS-FM directly raised expectations by what it posted on the website and what they had their jocks say during the week while promoting the show. You can argue one way or another whether it was a good show, but clearly, the way the show was promoted mislead a lot of people into thinking they would be hearing something that was very different from what was on last night.
