Rock Emphasis on CBS-FM

It might be just my perception but it seems WCBS-FM is overemphasizing rock songs and deemphasizing songs that are more pop oriented.

Regarding the 60's, I have heard a few hard rocking Kinks songs several times. The Rolling Stones, the Doors and CCR have also gotten extensive airplay. On the other hand, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Dionne Warwick, Petula Clark, Little Anthony and the Imperials and the hits from the show "Hair" have gotten minimal airplay.
Does Brian Thomas hold the philosophy that the rock cuts are better remembered, or sound more contemporary and less dated? Or is it a format issue that the station wants to have a rock edge? Or, in the first month are they trying to hold onto the rock base of Jack FM listeners?

The selection of music from the '80s also seems to be decidely more in the rock direction. I have heard lots of John Cougar, Springsteen, Bob Seger as well as a few acts who only had a couple of hits; Joan Jett and the Romantics. On the other hand, the following more pop oriented 80's acts have gotten little airplay; Sheena Easton, Madonna, Kenny Rogers, Lisa Lisa and ABC.

So my question is, does guitar driven rock get more emphasis and if so what are the reasons?
