Actually, the story is much better than what got printed. He was a very nice gentleman from Africa, who grew up there listening to American pop music. BTW, he told me he was exposed mostly to folk music (Peter, Paul & Mary, Dylan etc.) One could do an interesting cross-cultural study with that, especially in light of how South Africa's Solomon Linda had his song "Mbube" *borrowed* by folkies like Pete Seger, the Kingston Trio and many others as "Wimoweh" (but that's a whole other BTH story in itself).
Anyway, I think he recognized both my voice and face, as he was in the habit of carrying around one of the printed CBS-FM Top 500 surveys with him at all times in his cab! I think that particular one had our pictures on it.
It was almost as if he was prepared in case one of us hailed him, as I eventually did!
