I caught only the last twenty minutes of the show (hey, it's three hours earlier here!) but a few observations...
First, I haven't heard American Gold even sparingly for a few years, and not regularly for longer than that, but this sounded like a customized version for WCBS-FM (unless Dick Bartley is now able to do this for all stations that air the show).
There were references to CBS-FM during several intros/outros and I heard Rosanna by Toto (1982) late in the fourth hour, a song which I'm not sure would be in the "generic" version of the show.
Was this "customized" show only to kick off it's pickup by CBS-FM and will next week and beyond be "generic"? Here's another clue for you all (the Walrus was Paul ;-)
According to the American Gold page on Bartley's website, this weekend's show should have had the themes summer of 1970 and Aretha Franklin, plus there is a reference to last weekend which included the summer of 1967--the theme he mentioned today as well as several songs he played toward the end of the show.
In the close--again with several references to CBS-FM (one sounded a bit strange as it was immediately followed by a "produced for the ABC Radio Networks" plug) he promoed next weekend's show as a 1976 Yearbook which does match what is listed on his website.
And about the last song--Light My Fire--not the 45 edit and not the LP version, but an edit somewhere (toward the shorter side) in between, however the stereo was reversed--every CD and LP I have with this song has the drums left and organ right while the edit played here was the opposite.
