I'm sorry. I know this irks the hardcore CBS-FM fans who think the Sunday Night "Radio Greats"s show should be nothing but live appearances from CBS-FM DJ's of the past.
But... Randy Davis is a radio great? Hey, I like Randy. He's got a super voice and paces a show well. But last night he did an ordinary show with very little talking. Anyone could have done it. Just because Randy worked at CBS-FM over the last eight years of its run before JACK doesn't make him a radio great. And, with all due respect, on the "Radio Greats Scale" he's no where near the level of Wolfman Jack.
I'm not criticizing CBS-FM. It's fine to hear people who don't currently have regular shifts on NY radio. I am criticizing the many of you who were so negative about Wolfman Jack but are now ecstatic over Randy. Objectively speaking, hearing Wolfman again was a far more rare and special event. Let's not celebrate everything CBS-FM to the extent that we lose the forest through the trees.
