"If they are going to keep the Great's identity a surprise until show time (a wonderful and fun idea) then they should have an MC (Rick Stacy?) stick around for a few minutes and introduce him with some fanfare, and a brief bio, and make it more fun and suspenseful. And then let the Great do his own show his way. Otherwise he may not look so great. Remember, not everyone listening will know who the Great is, or why he is considered to be Great."

This is a *fabulous* idea! I'd really love this. Or maybe at the tail end of Rick Stacy's show.

"I believe that the NYRG show should be pretty talky, with the music for some breaks, or to help illustrate an anecdote."

The only problem with this is that the reason the Randy Davis edition was successful was because he took so many phone calls. (I tried to get through but couldn't.) People wanted to hear him on the radio AND speak with him personally. It's only a 3 hour show with a DJ, music, and commercials. According to the show clock, what is the best way to balance these items? What should be sacrificed? How about a sponsor with one announcement for each hour, like it was done for the first couple of days of CBS FM's return?

"Give the Great some freedom! It'll make the show that much more special."

Ditto!

IMO, a "Great" is more than talent and execution. In such an intimate medium as radio, the title also involves companionship and affection. In this, Randy Davis certainly excells, and is indeed a "NY Radio Great."
