Dr. Cohen, on Linden Boulevard -- I forget his first name -- used to be the neighborhood dentist for a lot of us back in south Queens in the 60s. He looked somewhat like Dr. Kildare, which instantly reassured every female patient and a disporoprionate percentage of males as well.
No music. Not in the waiting room, and certainly none in the clinic. Nothing but the wee drill and the occasional scrape and maybe a poignant pluck or two and the reassurance. Even his needles were painless.
Perfect orally-correct envoirnment to grow up in. Nowadays, with Def Leppard and AC/DC and the Screaming Trees bleering away, I have to be gassed and put under to get a haircut.
