Marty,
The point I have been trying make for a long time with you younger guys is that regardless of the fact that you didn't grow up in the 50's with the Rock and Roll of that era those of us who did will never forget those great songs. You can deny it all that you want, but the fact is that the songs from the 50's and 60's have more longevity and memory value than those of the 70's and 80's and far more than those of the 90's and today.
I don't expect you to like pre '64 music. I really don't think that some (not all) younger people open up to it because of its age (it's corny, it's not cool). People my age don't care. My son is 21, he's cool, he should be. He loves the oldies, not as much as his Alternative Rock but he'll listen (not with his friends around). When my parents were listening to the Big Band songs I couldn't open up to them once Rock and Roll came along. Nowadays, I pride my Big Band collection as much as all of my other collections. I came to realize that this was good music.
"In the Still Of the Night" is an immortal. It is remembered as being played by Alan Freed, Murray the K, etc. It never was a super hit on the charts, it might have cracked the Billboard Top 100, but it is a standard favorite whether a station plays it or not. I get requests for it almost every week.
