Maybe I missed it, but where in the statement did Mike refer to the Music as being "better"?
He stated that the music of the 50's era has more longevity over Music of the 70's and later Music, which I happen to agree with. It's already been proven over the last 35 years that Folks still remember them, and they would have to be forgotten by everyone in order to begin to be dis-proven.
I see no reason why any song from ANY (1950's-00's) era should be disqualified based solely on a chronological statistic. If the song is a "Favorite" and they WOULD play it (even minimumly), it should qualify. If the song loses postition based on overall popularity within the actual votes, then that's fine. But if it loses it's position based on the song not being of primary focus for the Station, then it's just plain wrong. In that case, don't bother having a Vote at all.
