Well, I usually think these posts are kind of silly, as I'm sure this one is, but it was also kind of neat.
Last night, I was walking down Broadway, uptown, at about 8:30.
Now walking in New York, at night, can be one of my favorite things to do. And romantic.
It's not a cliche to say there's a certain rythym in the air, just about always. (I even dig, walking in the rain...)
And it's unusual for me to be around upper Broadway, starting at about 90th, so it was just extraordinarily pleasant, seeing buildings and faces that would usually be unknown.
I was alone, and it would be a couple of hours before I was meeting my dinner date, and it had been awhile since I had been in Gray's Papaya. Any of the Gray's Papayas. And while they've raised their price to $3.50ish, two hot dogs and a drink is still a great deal. Maybe one of the best in New York.
What did Bogart say?
"A beer and a hot dog at the ballpark beats a steak at the Ritz, anyday."
Something like that.
Well, a couple of dogs and a grape drink while people watching at 72nd and Broadway, with WCBS-FM filling the small shop, and emanating onto the boulevard, was surely nearly as sweet.
Maybe it's all just marketing.
All I know is that this has been a summer where pleasantness at times has been at a premium.
And enjoying the cool evening, with 101.1 back on, made me smile.
