Bob...It was a reasonably calculated guess! We took an average of songs played per hour and multiplied it by the number of hours the station had been on the air....subtracted the number of Sunday morning public service talk hours (remember Alan Watts? and also subtracted the number of syndicated program hours (like King Biscuit Flower Hour, technically not "records played",)to arrive at the number of songs played to that day. As the day of the 2,000,000th song neared we manipulated the outcome by choosing records of different legnths to be sure the winning song wouldn't come up in the middle of the night, That's why it wound up being played at about 9:45 AM
