Allan, your poignant retrospective McCoy critique also can apply, in 2004, to so many other PDs and indeed, other companies.

Talented PDs made things happen in the past. (Of course, having friskier music helped). Niching has blunted too many stop-set instincts in the ranks of up-and-coming PDs. In itself, it'd be a real chicken-egg discussion even to outline if niching caused stagnant music or if stagnant music caused niching.

In modern times, with the blueprint and manual already handed to him like a huge desk calendar, what exactly does a PD do except schedule fill-ins or formulate vacation schedules?
