My feeling is McCoys' demise was due to him listening to the Sniffens(and the corporate bottom line yuppie suits) and the idea that he had to make his great station sound like the poor imitators over the country. When I worked in Tampa for 2 years in the mid 90's, I came across many people who actually had relatives from NY tape CBS-Fm and mail it to them. I would listen to the Tampa Oldies station and realize after 2 hours what crap it was. Now(even this afternoon) I listen to CBS-FM and feel like I'm listening to that Tampa oldies station from 1996.
We had a good thing and bowed to the pressure of trying to be like everybody else. WRONG then. WRONG now. B103 on LOng Island is starting to remind me of the CBS FM I used to know...
