It seems you want to assume that everything McCoy did was either luck, obvious or someone else thought of the idea first. You know very well that is extremely simplistic evaluation. Under McCoy the station increased ratings was one of the top billing stations in New York and created a unique New York listening experience. In addition there was strong listener identification with the station and strong satisfaction. There is no way to prove that someone else might not have been able to do it. The bottom line is McCoy did it. In the top radio market in the country this man lasted over two decades programming the most popular oldies station in the country.

I would ask you refer to a post further down the page by Jimmy which details out some of the other Oldie stations in the major markets. It's clear from that post alone it's not as easy as you think.

The bottom line Joe was a great program director.
