John (or Jack as he liked to be called by friends) Causier was the kind of laid back guy you gravitate to when workng with him on a staff of
some thirty staff announcers,
which we had in New York in the early 60's. We were responsible for four areas of work; network and local radio and the same on tv.
I came aboard the ABC staff in 1962 and found John always helpful in tips to getting our work done best and without problems. He did this in a delightul way, always keeping himself outside the loop of doing it better than others. This self effacing way he did things allowed a grace of style to show through his work and make a new man on staff fully comfortable while relieving the more seasoned staffers, several of whom had big names on the outside, Don Gardiner with news and Milton Cross, famous for opera broadcasts, yet so down to earth one always felt welcomed when speaking to them. Each staffer had a history of big broadcasts yet as a whole they never strutted their way, with men like John Causier on hand to demonstrate how an ABC staff announcer should perform and react to assignments with a professional and always friendly response. This kind of attitude was a hallmark of John Causier, who will now be missed by all those who rubbed elbows with him, listeners, viewers, family and friends. He was well liked and we expect memories of John Causier will grace our lives as he did. RIP. Bill Rice, ABC Staff
