I had the pleasure meeting Chuck at Sirius Satellite Radio several months ago. I told him that he was one of MY favorite All Americans..
He seemed taken aback..actually seemed a bit embarrassed that I was heaping so much heartfelt praise upon him. I have studied many of the jocks from that era..and I must tell you..Chuck was the smoothest of the bunch. Ingram was the wittiest..Brucie the silliest (but fun)..Ron was the most lovable.. HOA and Harry made you feel happy.. George Michael was the most jive..Even Charlie Greer was slick at times..(Is THIS the place?) Heck..even Roby and Babaloo were cool.. Bob Dayton the yucker..but a pro. But CHUCK was OOOOOOOH so smooth..and believeable.
Made it worth sticking that little 99 cent earpiece from my SINCLAIR 4 transistor radio in my ear. (If you pushed it WAY in..the bass was accentuated). I wish there were more people on the radio with that "feel".. BE BIG..
