The post below didn't question the need for DJs on music stations...it questioned whether the average listener cared about the DJ. It's obvious that you and I and probably every other person posting on this board views radio as more entertainment than just the music. We're active listeners. And yes, I've heard it done well, on WABC, 99X, WPLJ, WLS and others.

Their presentations were tight, crisp and lent an excitement to playing the music, much like Larry Berger commented below on how the Univision broadcast of the World Cup was more exciting than the ESPN2 version, even though he doesn't speak Spanish.

You make good points. Those of us posting here understand the value of air talent. Many of us have been air talent. That wasn't the point of the post.
