EXACTLY. And the reason these stations succeed is "community", something that just cannot exist in an urban setting. If you drive throughout the United States and listen to small market radio, much of it generally isn't all that good. But there does exist some really good radio, even quite a bit of it still on AM that is exempliary of "community" radio.

It is virtually impossible for those living in mega cities to imagine this, let alone a small powered station, AM or FM "thriving" with both listeners and in revenue, but it is a reality.

"Superserving" a city like New York would be impossible; there is no "common" thing to serve. It is like 100,000 fragmented villages within 10,000 villages, within 1000 other villages.
