It isn't' as much "red state/blue state" as it is location. As I said, a 24-death format would never work in urbanity. But in areas where everyone knows practically everyone else and people share quite a bit of commonality, and that isn't necessarily religion, politics, or "redness", but the pace of life is slower, more laid back, and the pressing urban issues do not affect everyone quite as much it is not only practical, but prevalent.
As far as being "wired", out here is just about as wired and served by new technology as is NYC or any other urban region. If you've lived in both urbanity and rural America you know what I am talking about, if not, then it is hard to imagine that everyone in some community could rally around something common irregardless of ethnicity, religion, or any other of those "labels" that come from living in urban areas.
Although the iPOD is quite prevalent; wireless/wired internet the norm; satellite radio in many vehicles and all the other trappings of life, well run LOCAL radio can still be one, if not THE guiding influence with all ages.
