Give you a break? How successful have the highly researched, focus grouped and consulted formats been? How many formats did 102.7 go through before achieving a rating that wasn't an embarrassment? Then there was JACK. K-Rock. The list goes on and on.

My feeling is that if on-air personalities pick some of the music instead of consultants, they could do no worse.

If you need to, just fantasize that the on-air personalities ARE the consultants. Maybe that will make you feel better.

Good books aren't written by committee. While some movies are produced and/or written by many people, the good ones are the vision of the director. Great recordings are the vision of the artists and/or the producer. Why does radio need an external party to determine the playlist? In my opinion, the best radio was achieved when creative personalities had the most control.

I fail to understand why people think McDonald's radio is a good thing. Why do you think less is more?

I have no idea whether this new station will succeed. I suspect it won't. But it has a better chance of succeeding if it attempts to do something different instead of playing the same short boring playlist and having liner card readers. That will definitely fail because it's absolutely not necessary and has no differentiation with other media out there that does it better. And if they really intend to hire some interesting personalities and give them some freedom, I salute them.
